Our traditional thin soft spiles are an essential tool for cask ale and real ale cellar management. Made from natural cane, these porous pegs gently vent excess carbon dioxide from the cask during conditioning and service, helping your ale develop natural carbonation, flavour and clarity.
This thinner version of our traditional soft spile is designed to make insertion easier into certain cask shives and openings where a standard-sized soft spile may be more difficult to fit. The slimmer profile provides easier access while still allowing controlled gas release during conditioning.
Inserted into the cask shive once the cask has been tapped, soft spiles allow controlled gas release while helping to prevent over-conditioning or fobbing. Once the beer has settled and reached the desired condition, the soft spile is replaced with a hard spile to retain carbonation.
